Head of Commissioning - TVNZ

Summer Wharekawa (Ngāti Tahu, Tūwharetoa, Ngāti Maniapoto) has extensive TV experience in Aotearoa NZ. Starting as a producer, director, production manager, and researcher for several independent production companies (including her own).

Summer was the Senior Commissioner and Interim Head of Content Development at Māori Television before moving to TVNZ. Since joining TVNZ six years ago, Summer has held multiple roles, including Commissioner: Māori and Pasifika; Local Content Manager, and managing the HEIHEI children's platform. She is currently Head of Commissioning.

Summer will be joining the Commissioner's Roundtable at the 30th Spada Conference.
