Large Budget Screen Production Grant Scheme

As of 16 July 2007, the New Zealand Government has introduced changes to the Large Budget Screen Production Grant.  The changes include:

* an increase in the grant to 15%

* removal of the 70% threshold for productions with QNZPE between $15m and $50m

* bundling of productions (each with a minimum spend of $3m) to reach a QNZPE threshold of $30m

* a new PDV (post-production, digital and visual effects) incentive whereby qualifying PDV expenditure in excess of $3m will receive a grant of 15%

The existing criteria will continue to apply to production expenditure incurred prior to 16 July 2007

If you have any questions please contact the LBSPG Administrator Sarah Cull, at the NZ Film Commission on +64 4 382 7680.

Commercial Filming on Department of Conservation (DOC) Land

New Zealand has thirteen national parks and more than five million hectares (approximately a third of New Zealand's landmass) protected as parks and reserves. This land, with its unique vegetation and stunning vistas, is recognised worldwide.

DOC is the guardian of New Zealand's conservation estate and administers its national parks. If you want to film in an area managed by DOC you need to apply for a concession - more information can be found here

Code of Practice for Filming on Public Conservation Lands

This code was developed by Film New Zealand and DOC for the benefit of the screen production sector. Download here.

Greening the Screen

An Environmental Toolkit for the New Zealand Screen Production Industry

Managing your production/companies environmental impacts just got easier!

For the first time the New Zealand screen production industry has its own environmental toolkit tailored specifically to address the environmental challenges of screen production. There are great examples of environmental responsibility to be found in screen production in New Zealand but the industry itself is the first to admit that a lot more needs to be done. The Greening the Screen toolkit is full of ideas and examples to encourage production/companies to use their creativity to seek win-win solutions that deliver both screen success and protection of New Zealand’s natural, historical and cultural heritage.

Ngai Tahu filming Guidelines (South Island)
Guidelines for screen production companies seeking to film on lands of importance to Ngai Tahu, which includes land administered by the Department Of Conservation, have been drawn up by Ngai Tahu and SPADA.

The guidelines point out intellectual property and location issues that may be of concern to the Iwi so that production companies can either avoid problems or plan a mitigation strategy.

The guidelines include advice and assistance which will help with the necessary consultation process with local tribal councils.
