Australasian Producers Accord
2005-03-15SPADA and SPAA join forces in the International Federation of Film Producers Associations.
The Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA) and its New Zealand equivalent, the Screen Production and Development Association (SPADA), have joined forces to represent the interests of antipodean producers internationally.
The two organisations have combined in a joint membership of the Federation Internationale Des Associations De Producteurs De Films (the International Federation of Film Producer Associations) - FIAPF.
The membership will be under the name of the Australia New Zealand Screen Producers Associations (ANZSPA).
The move follows pressure from the international producing community for this vibrant sector of the world film economy to be properly represented at the major international forums. All other major producer associations are members of FIAPF, including the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the UK producer body, the Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television (PACT).
“FIAPF is the only organization that effectively deals with major issues like audiovisual piracy and the international rollout of SAG pay and conditions. It also presents a unique opportunity to network with other production industry executives.
Increasingly SPAA and SPADA are finding common ground on issues affecting our region. This offers an opportunity to press our concerns before the world’s leading producer bodies.” said SPAA Executive Director, Geoff Brown.
SPADA Chief Executive, Penelope Borland said: “This will be the first time that New Zealand has had the opportunity to take part in discussions with the world’s major producer bodies on matters vital to the future of the industry that New Zealanders are now so proud of. SPADA is delighted to represent New Zealand production industry interests alongside Australia at this important and unique international producer forum.”
“Trans-Tasman production work and cooperation is increasing. We need to work together as international film investment and intellectual property issues have major impact on our industry in this part of the world.”
ANZSPA will attend the FIAPF General Assembly in Cannes during the Film Festival this coming May.
