After working as a teacher and researcher Tomas Eskilsson started Film i Väst 1992.
Film i Väst is a regional resource and production centre for film and TV. Film i Väst is a public company owned by Västra Götalandsregionen (Region Västra Götaland). Film i Väst is Scandinavia’s major regional film fund and one of the biggest regional film funds in
Europe
.
During the last seven years Film i Väst has co-produced more than 130 feature films. Co-productions that are internationally well known are: “Dancer in the Dark” (Lars von Trier), “Dogville” (Lars von Trier), “Manderlay” (Lars von Trier),
“Fucking Åmål” (Lukas Moodysson), “Together” (Lukas Moodysson), “Lilya 4-ever” (Lukas Moodysson), “A Hole In My Heart” (Lukas Moodysson), “Container” (Lukas Moodysson), “Jalla Jalla” (Josef Fares), “Kops” (Josef Fares), “Zozo” (Josef Fares), “Falkenberg Farewell” (Jesper Ganslandt) “Daybreak” (Björn Runge), and “Dalecarlians” (Maria Blom).
Film i Väst’s budget is 10 MEURO (125 MUSD) per year. 75% of the budget is invested in feature film projects. The film- and media industry that is clustered around Film i Väst has a yearly turn over of close to 200 MEURO.
Film i Väst has co-produced films originating from 15 different countries.
