The skill of pitching is difficult to master, and is a part of the business many producers struggle with. A good idea is not enough – the producer needs to be skilled in communicating ideas and selling a creative package to potential financiers.

The goal of the pitching competition is to recognize and encourage an outstanding concept and also to provide career development for the participants, through training and the process of public pitching.  The pitching competition also inspires and benefits both the participants and audience, as all delegates can learn from the pitching process and judges.

Entry is open to all registered delegates of Small Country, Big Picture 2005. Applications will be accepted until November 4th. Applicants will provide a brief written synopsis and relevant details of the project they intend to pitch. The pitch can be for a television or film project in any genre.

Pre-selection will be decided by incumbent SPADA Executive member, Dave Gibson. Pre-selected individuals or teams will then perform an oral pitch, and on the basis of this pitch Dave will choose finalists (individuals or teams) to pitch to over 300 delegates and a panel of judges.

The pitching competition finals will be held on
Saturday November 19
during the Great Screenrights Brunch.

Each finalist will have five minutes to present their pitch, which may include audio, video or still images as aids.

The winner will be decided by a judging panel of four, convened and co-ordinated by incumbent SPADA President, Vincent Burke.

The judges will base their decision on:
The story (originality, quality, cohesiveness)

The overall package (the team, feasibility of the project, financing potential)

The presentation itself (clarity, passion, communication of ideas)
